The Yes Set

Here is a simple hypnotic language idea. It is called a yes set. The basic idea is that when someone agrees with a few obvious true statements, the mind may become more ready to consider the next idea. You already see this everywhere. For example: “You are reading this post.” “You are probably sitting or standing somewhere.” “You can notice the words on the screen.” Those are easy to agree with. Then we can gently move toward something useful: “And you might begin to notice how your attention responds to simple suggestions.” That is a yes set. It is not mind control. It is not magic. It is a way of pacing what is already true before leading attention somewhere useful. You can even use it with yourself. Try this: “I am here.” “I am breathing.” “I can notice the next sentence.” “And I can choose one useful thing to do next.” Simple. But notice the structure. Pace. Pace. Pace. Lead. That little pattern shows up all over hypnosis, communication, teaching, coaching, and good conversation.
